One of the most successful ways to grow mushrooms is with the casing method. Casing involves using the mycelium grown from inoculated rye grain or another substrate.

Transplanting the spawn into a bed of substrate and adding a 1 inch, sterilized casing layer will trick the mycelium network into creating fruit bodies because they think their food source is running out. If done correctly this will flush three to five times before expiring.
